Sri Jagannath Das Babaji

Sri Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj (c. 1776–1895) was a towering saint of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, known as Vaishnava Sarvabhauma—the commander-in-chief of the devotees. He lived a life of deep bhajan, humility, and service, often chanting for days without food or sleep. Despite great spiritual stature, he lived simply—once begging from a street sweeper to show true Vrindavan wealth lies in humility. At over 120 years old, he confirmed the rediscovery of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s birthplace in Mayapur with ecstatic joy. Closely linked with Bhaktivinoda Thakur and Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, he helped preserve pure Gaudiya teachings. He left this world in 1895, his life a shining example of devotion and love for the Holy Name.
