RelatedSri Trailanga Swami
Trailanga Swami was a great Hindu yogi. He is said to have lived for an extraordinarily long life of around 300 years and to have resided in Varanasi for approximately 150 years. It is believed that Trailanga Swami was an incarnation of Lord Shiva, and he is often referred to as “the walking Lord Shiva of Kashi.” The famous Bengali saint Ramakrishna visited Trailanga Swami and said, “I saw that the Universal Lord Himself was using his body as a vehicle for manifestation. He was in an exalted state of knowledge; there was no body-consciousness in him.” Trailanga Swami spent his last years in silence beside Kali and Shiva deities carved from stone by his own hands. He sat at his altar, writing Sanskrit shlokas and giving advice to others. When saints visited him, he often communicated in his own form of sign language.
