Sri Swami Narayan Tirth Maharaj was born Kali Kishore in 1870 in East Bengal. Even in youth he seemed oddly untouched by worldly cravings, steady in emotion, light in attachment. He married Sarojini Devi only to honor his parents, then soon left to walk the long roads as a wandering monk. After a long search, he met Sri Swami Gangadhar Tirth and received Shaktipat—three days of overwhelming joy and awakened awareness. Yet the guru sent him back to fulfill his duties first. Kali obeyed, worked, and practiced daily, until the inner current returned. Then he withdrew again, took the name Swami Narayan Tirth, and began awakening others. He founded Siddhayogi Ashram in Varanasi and carried the Shaktipat lineage forward until his passing in 1935.
