Though educated only to the 6th grade, he spoke with depth and clarity on many subjects. By foot, he traveled the mountains meeting spiritual leaders, and before 18 became a Sannyasi in the Ramakrishna Order. Witnessing the suffering of orphans and street children, he vowed to create a center to help them live independently and to teach his disciples the value of selfless service (Seva). In 1978, he founded the Paramananda Mission and an orphanage in Banagram, Burdwan district, later expanding to several branches to serve humanity.
