Sri Mahayogi Mouna Baba

Sri Mouna Swami (1868–1943), born as Picchayya in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, was a deeply spiritual soul who renounced worldly life in 1906. Initiated into Sanyasa by Sri Achyutananda Saraswathi Swami, he became Sri Sivachidananda Saraswathi and attained yogic siddhis under Sri Vasudevananda Saraswathi Swami. A learned speaker in his early life, he once impressed scholars at a Vedic conference in Kashmir. However, when his Guru reminded him of the humility required of a sanyasi, he took a lifelong vow of silence (mouna vratham). Sri Mouna Swami mastered advanced yogic kriyas and was known for miracles such as reviving the dead and transforming substances. In 1916, he founded the Courtallam Peetham, which remains a center of spiritual practice.
