Guru Hargobind Singh Ji was the sixth Sikh Guru, the young son of Guru Arjan who became guru at the age of eleven when his father was tortured to death. To protect his Sikhs from further persecution, he began militarizing the community. He wore two swords, mīrī and pīrī (temporal power and spiritual authority), to symbolize this shift. He was also a strong advocate of the householder path. He considered women to be the consciousness of mankind and promoted marriage as a path to realization.
