Guru Amar Das Ji was the third Sikh Guru. He spent most of his life a devout Vaishnava, going on almost twenty pilgrimages to the Himalayas. On one such pilgrimage, a monk asked him why he did not have a guru. He had no answer, and he decided to find one. Soon he heard his nephew’s wife reciting a hymn by Guru Nanak, and he was deeply moved. She was Bibi Amro, the daughter of Guru Angad, and she introduced him to her father. At the age of 60, he met his guru for the first time. After eleven years of devoted service, he himself became the next Sikh Guru.
