Sri Dadu Dayal ji
Sant Dadu Dayal was a 16th-century mystic poet of North India whose life unfolded quietly, like a lamp burning without noise. Born in Ahmedabad and later spending much of his life in Rajasthan, he rejected caste divisions, ritual excess, and empty scholarship. For Dadu, God was not hidden in temples or texts but lived in breath, silence, and love. He spoke of nirgun bhakti, devotion to the formless, using simple words that cut deep. His verses, often sung rather than read, urged people to look inward, to dissolve ego, and to live with compassion and fearlessness. Dadu did not seek followers, yet seekers gathered around him, drawn by his clarity and gentleness. He lived modestly, taught by example, and left behind songs instead of monuments. After his passing, his teachings were preserved by his disciples and later compiled as Dadu Vani. Even today, Sant Dadu Dayal’s voice feels close, calm, uncompromising, and quietly radical, reminding us that truth is not far away; it sits exactly where we are willing to be still.
