Saint Bamakhepa was revered as the Mad Saint of Tarapith. From youth, he showed no interest in worldly life — called “khepa” (mad), a term of respect in Tantric tradition. He was deeply devoted to Mother Tara and often went into trances chanting her name. He practiced severe Tantric sadhana in the Tarapith cremation ground, ignoring all physical comfort, lived among dogs, cats, jackals, and snakes, showing his equal vision toward all. He often roamed naked, saying: “My Father (Shiva) is naked; my Mother (Tara) is naked. I live with them in the cremation ground, so I have no shame.”
